What you’ll be doing
Reporting to VP of Engineering you’ll be involved in:
- Leading and line-managing a regional engineering group (c.20–25 engineers) across multiple squads, setting the tone for a high-performance, inclusive culture.
- Partnering with Product to align regional roadmaps to business goals and ensure squads are appropriately resourced against near- and longer-term priorities (6–24 months).
- Owning regional resource planning, hiring and development pathways, and embedding clear, skills-based progression and performance management.
- Driving modern engineering practices across SDLC, CI/CD and QA—championing automation, test-first thinking and “always ship each cycle.”
- Collaborating with Architecture, Security, DevOps and QA to deliver secure, well-architected services on a shared platform, while managing technical debt and legacy modernisation.
- Acting as principal point of escalation for key accounts and a trusted voice in the Regional Leadership Team and Product Council.
- Contributing to budget and capital allocation decisions, ensuring engineering investment aligns with business outcomes.
In this capacity, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading people operations (hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, reviews), ensuring timely HR ceremonies and strong pastoral care.
- Running skills assessments, identifying gaps, and enabling tailored upskilling and mentoring across levels from Junior to Principal.
- Structuring squads and BAU/elastic capacity models to balance roadmap delivery with strategic initiatives.
- Establishing and reporting on engineering metrics (e.g., DORA, test coverage, code quality, debt reduction) through Quarterly Tech Reviews.
- Championing a secure-by-design approach, data governance, and timely remediation of CVEs in partnership with the CISO team.
- Aligning toolchains and practices (One JIRA, GitHub Enterprise/GitHub Actions) to drive consistency and efficiency.
- Orchestrating incident response, coordinating the operational fix and stakeholder communications.
- Supporting GTM with technical insight to improve product marketing, sales enablement and customer outcomes.
Who we're looking for
At Reapit, we prioritise hiring individuals who share our values and possess the right attitudes and behaviours for success. Whilst some of the listed requirements may be important, don’t worry if you don’t meet all of them, we’d still like to hear from you.
- Proven senior software engineering leader, with multi-squad line management of 20–25 engineers across product delivery and operations.
- Strong technical background in an engineering discipline, ideally across the full stack – we work in AWS, C# .NET, TypeScript, Node, React, Perl and Kotlin stacks.
- Track record partnering with Product to translate strategy into resourced, measurable delivery plans over 6–24 months.
- Deep people leadership: performance management, career pathways, mentoring and inclusive culture building.
- Expertise in modern SDLC and quality practices (testing pyramid, automation, CI/CD), with familiarity with GitHub Actions and enterprise toolchains.
- Strong grasp of secure software development, data governance and vulnerability management in collaboration with Security.
- Comfortable managing technical debt and guiding modernisation from legacy to scalable, cloud-based architectures.
- Confident stakeholder manager across senior internal leaders and strategic customers; calm, clear communicator under pressure.
- Commercial mindset: experience contributing to budgets and capital allocation against business outcomes.
What your impact and success looks like
As an Engineering Director we expect your success and impact over the early stages of your career with us to look something like this:
Within 1 month:
- Build trust through 1:1s with engineers, leads and key partners (Product, QA, DevOps, Architecture, Security); understand regional goals and current squad topology.
- Baseline delivery health (DORA, test coverage, incident posture, debt hotspots) and agree immediate focus areas.
- Confirm operating cadence (planning, reviews, QTR reporting) and “always ship each cycle” expectations.
Within 3 months:
- Implement rightsizing/re-allocation of squads and BAU/elastic capacity to de-risk roadmap delivery.
- Show measurable uplift in engagement, progression and mentoring participation across the team; have critical roles hired or backfilled.
- Launch a pragmatic modernisation plan (prioritised legacy sunsetting, debt reduction) with clear success metrics.
- Embed quality improvements (testing approach, automation) and strengthen CI/CD flow with DevOps and QA.
- Establish security SLAs for CVE remediation and regular reporting with the CISO team
Within 6 months:
- Demonstrably improve delivery predictability and quality (trend up in deployment frequency & lead time; trend down in change failure/MTTR).
- Hit key roadmap milestones while maintaining engineering standards and customer satisfaction for strategic accounts.
- Present clear outcomes through QTRs tying capital allocation to shipped value and platform improvements.
We operate a Flexible Working Policy but would like to see you in the office around half of the working week as an approachable mentor to the team.
We’re offering the chance to really make a difference here at Reapit and the opportunity for personal growth is very real.
